Ours is the highest quality nitrocellulose lacquer as found on many vintage guitars. It gives an excellent thin finish which we have researched / tweaked / tested extensively before offering for sale. It is ideal for restoration work or to give your new-build that vintage feel.

The gloss of this lacquer can be enhanced by using burnishing cream on it after it has been given sufficient time to set. Nitrocellulose lacquer naturally cracks and yellows as it ages. Our tinted brown lacquers, for example FS5012, can be used over this clear lacquer to give an immediate aged-vintage effect.

Being a spray can it's easy to use, just be sure that you only spray it in a well ventilated area, preferably outside or in a shed etc. Don't use it indoors: it absolutely stinks!

Each can is 400ml, which is enough for approximately 4 square metres of coverage (dependent of coat thickness); our aerosols give a steady consistent fine spray.

Technical Data

A quality, high solids, fast drying Nitrocellulose lacquer which can be used either as a coat on coat system, over our Cellulose Sanding Sealer (FS5007 or FS5092) or as a final coat on our cellulose paints or base coats.

Typical Handling

Touch Dry: 5-8 minutes @ 18°C
Sandable: 30 minutes @ 18°C (use 320 or finer SiC (Silicone Carbide) ‘wet dry’ paper)
Recoatable: 30 minutes minimum @ 18°C
Packing Time: Overnight minimum, dependent on conditions.
Until polishing: 1 week minimum, dependent on conditions.

Coverage

Approximately 4m² per can dependent on orientation and surface quality.

Important Information

Excessively thick coats can lead to cracking or lifting.
Leave adequate time between coats. Do not apply more than 3 coats in one day.
Denib between coats to aid adhesion.
Do not overcoat with 1K or 2K Urethane or Polyurethane products.
Store above 5°C and protect from frost.
Keep out of direct sunlight.
Optimum spraying conditions are low humidity, between 18°C and 22°C with good air movement and ventilation.
Finished product should not be subjected to environments with temperatures of < 2°C.

Appropriate personal protection equipment – including but not limited to nitrile gloves and particulate masks – should be worn.

Do not wear vinyl gloves for handling cellulose lacquer, thinners or paint as the solvents will dissolve the vinyl.

Use in a well-ventilated area.

In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
Wear suitable protective clothing and gloves. Nitrile gloves are recommended; vinyl gloves should not be used as they are dissolved by cellulose products.
Use only in a well ventilated area.
Dispose of this material and its container to hazardous or special waste collection point.
